Hangman
Hangman, a traditional word-guessing game, requires participants to guess a hidden word using limited characters. Guess the word before your turn.
How to play
The objective of the game is to guess the word before a set number of incorrect guesses leads to the player's "hanging."
Setup
- One player (the "host") selects a word or phrase and writes a series of underscores representing each letter.
- The host can also provide a category for the word (e.g., animals, movies, etc).
Guessing
- The second player (the "guesser") starts guessing letters one at a time.
If the guessed letter is in the word, the host reveals its position(s) by replacing the corresponding underscores with the letter. - If the guessed letter is not in the word, the host adds a part to the hangman figure (usually starting with the head, then body, arms, and legs).
Winning and Losing
- The guesser wins if they can guess the word before the hangman figure is fully drawn (typically 6-8 incorrect guesses).
- The host wins if the guesser is unable to guess the word within the allowed attempts.
Variations
- Players can set different rules regarding the number of guesses, the use of phrases, or categories.
- The game can also be played with a timer for an added challenge.
Hangman is a fun and engaging way to improve vocabulary and spelling skills while providing entertainment. It can be played with friends or family or even as a solo challenge against a computer or app.
